The Top 10 Foods in the World (According to Me)
Everyone has their own opinions on what constitutes the best foods in the world, but I’m going to tell you about my top ten. One thing I can promise is that all of these foods are delicious and worth trying at least once in your life! The first three can be found in many different cuisines, so if you don’t see something you know, check it out anyway—you never know where you might find it!
1. Patagonian Toothfish
Also known as Chilean Seabass, due to its large size and popularity in Chile, it’s prized by chefs around the world. While it can be found frozen, fresh is always better. The toothfish has a lot of flavours and firm flesh. It’s great on its own or prepared in a variety of ways: sautéed, baked, grilled, or even steamed with a dash of soy sauce. But you can prepare it however you want!
2. Guinness
If you’ve never had Guinness, you should. Beer isn’t supposed to be black and it sure as hell isn’t supposed to taste like coffee, but if you can get past those two ideas, beer is amazing. The texture alone is a pleasant surprise—it’s so thick and rich that I often wonder how they make it. But it pours slowly out of its tap and into your glass.
3. Durian
If you’ve never had durian, then you are seriously missing out. These fruits are available fresh year-round, and their taste is an acquired one for sure! I love them and would choose to eat these over just about any other food. You can find them at pretty much any grocery store, but if you’re ever in Thailand or Indonesia on vacation be sure to pick some up while you’re there! Trust me; it is a treat that everyone should try at least once.
4. Ackee and Saltfish
I’m not sure how ackee and saltfish ended up at #10 on my list, but I can say that no meal has left me feeling more satisfied than a plate of ackee and saltfish. And, yes, it’s a Jamaican national dish! Whether you love Caribbean food or are looking for something new to try, give it a shot. It’s never going to be too late!
5. Kumquat
Kumquats, like most citrus fruits, are low in calories and high in vitamin C. They’re a great way to wake up your taste buds—and they’re quite pretty on your plate! Plus, they make a great fruit salad. No more boring salads! It’s time to throw some kumquats into that mix. After all, why eat an ordinary bowl of oranges when you could have an extraordinary bowl of kumquats?
6. Chocolate, Godiva Chocolate specifically
If you were to ask me what one food I can eat over and over again, it would have to be chocolate. Specifically Godiva Chocolate. There’s just something about biting into a piece of Godiva Chocolate that always manages to take my mind off of everything going on around me. It could be a hectic morning getting ready for work or an argument with my significant other, but one taste of Godiva and all my stress seems to disappear for at least 15 minutes!
7. Crab rangoon from Panda Express
How do I love thee? Let me count your layers of silky, cheesy goodness. Let me count your wonton strips and imitation crab meat. Let me count how many times I stopped by Panda Express before leaving town. My love for crab rangoon knows no bounds, my friends. Crab rangoon knows no bounds.
8. Churros from Disneyland’s Churro Cart
I haven’t lived in California for almost 20 years, but whenever I have an opportunity to get my hands on these bad boys, I do. They’re cinnamon-sprinkled doughnuts, and they’re awesome. Nothing says I love you, mom! like a box of 24 churros when you go home for Christmas break. These are number one on my list because who doesn’t want to devour a warm sugar stick covered in cinnamon?
9. Reuben Sandwich From Outback Steakhouse
Of all of Outback’s signature steaks, it’s hard not to love its Reuben Sandwich. With corned beef and Swiss cheese nestled between two slices of sourdough rye bread and topped with sauerkraut and Russian dressing, it’s a hearty treat that will leave you feeling full but not uncomfortably stuffed.
10. Cuban Sandwiches From Little Havana Miami
Cuban sandwiches are probably one of my favourite things I’ve ever eaten. It’s a deceptively simple meal, but one that packs a lot of flavour. This sandwich is great on its own or served open-faced with a hearty helping of black beans, rice and plantains!
